もみじ銀行の前身である「廣島無盡(ひろしまむじん)株式會社」は、被爆した翌々日8月8日から広島市内の全金融機関とともに、日本銀行広島支店に集まり窓口を設けて支払業務を開始しました。
8月25日から東魚屋町44の商工組合中央金庫広島支所の3階を借りて営業を再開。ほとんど見知らぬ罹災者や復員した方々のご家族が証書を持たずとも、住所・名前をお聞きし認印や拇印で支払業務を遂行。後の調査で、二重払いや騙されたと思われるものは1件もありませんでした。荒廃の極みに達した時であっても、「広島の人間の性はやはり善である」ことを役職員一同感得したという記録が残っております。
昭和26年相互銀行法の施行に伴い、株式会社廣島相互銀行となってからも、中小企業の繁栄と国民貯蓄の増強に尽力することを役職員一同誓いました。

Together with the People of Hiroshima - Momiji Bank
The predecessor of Momiji Bank was Hiroshima Mujin, Ltd. (mujin referring to a type of mutual loan). Starting on August 8, 1945, just two days after the bombing of Hiroshima, our bank gathered with all the banking facilities in Hiroshima City at the Bank of Japan Hiroshima Branch to open a service counter and begin disbursement services.
On August 25, the bank borrowed the third floor of the Shoko Chukin Bank Hiroshima Branch, located at 44 Higashiuoya-cho (current-day Tatemachi) to restart business. The family members of bombing victims and demobilized soldiers that came were often not recognized by the bank workers and did not have any certification. However, workers asked them for their name, address, and unregistered seal or thumb print, and carried out disbursement work.
A survey at a later date found that there was not a single case of duplicate disbursement or possible fraud. Our records show that the bank directors and employees at the time became profoundly aware that, even in a state of extreme devastation, "the people of Hiroshima are good."
Even after the bank become Hiroshima Sogo Bank, Limited in accordance with the enactment of the Sogo Bank Law of 1951, the bank directors and employees swore to devote all their efforts to enhancing the prosperity of small and medium-sized enterprises and the savings of citizens.
